Food Waste Container

The City of Seattle is soliciting bids for plastic kitchen food waste containers as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and waste reduction. As a recognized leader in green initiatives, Seattle aims to enhance its food waste management system by providing residents with efficient and user-friendly containers that facilitate composting. These containers are designed to support the city's efforts to divert food scraps from landfills, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting environmental health. The specified containers will ensure ease of use, prevent spills, deter pests, and contain odors, making the composting process more convenient for households. The City has held a successful contract for Food Waste Containers since 2013. However, the current contract is set to expire and all renewal options have been exhausted. Therefore, the City is returning to the marketplace to establish a new contract for Food Waste Containers. The current contract for Food Waste Containers will be closed. The City expects to make quarterly purchases for an estimated total of 7,000 containers per year. During 2023, Seattle Public Utilities spent approximately $36,000 on Food Waste Containers. Most orders are between $15,000 and $18,000 each with occasional smaller orders of approximately $400.
