Spanish Program for Students in Grades 6-8 Project # RFP 25-005 A. PURPOSE The Bridgeton Board of Education is requesting proposals from companies that provide a comprehensive Spanish program to be utilized as the main resource for our Grades 6-8 World Language Spanish Curriculum. The Program must support the four domains of language acquisition; reading, writing, listening and speaking. The program must offer various levels of support and scaffolding for students learning Spanish, but at different stages of the language acquisition process. Scope: We are seeking an organization/company able to provide a systematic language art approached specifically designed to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language. The program must address phonological awareness, writing, reading, interpretation and comprehension. The program must address the New Jersey Learning Standards, and provide for differentiated instruction for students functioning on different academic levels; native Spanish speakers, as well as students learning Spanish as a Second language. The program must address the specific needs of students in grades 6-8 (Approximately 1,500 students) through the use of individual online licenses. Although, the program must have a digital component, it should also offer hardcopies of teaching materials, workbooks and other manipulatives. B. SCOPE OF SERVICE Program will be utilized as the main resources for our 6-8 World Language Spanish Curriculum, and therefore, it must provide a comprehensive language arts/literacy approach to instruct native Spanish speakers and students learning Spanish as a foreign language. Program must cultivate communication and cultural understanding in context; enhancing cross-cultural communication and understanding cultural differences between the United States and Spanish speaking countries. Program must emphasize the importance of global communities with people who speak languages other than English to address social justice issues and other global problems; Program must be sequentially organized as a continuum toward higher levels of proficiency. Each proficiency level benchmark should include students in the 6-8 grade cluster. Program must address the four domains of language; reading, writing, listening and speaking. Program must address the three standards modes of communication: presentational, interpersonal, and interpretive. Program must address phonemic awareness, as well as comprehension, and all the other key skills, which are part of a Language Arts/Literacy Program. Program accelerates Spanish Language acquisition and literacy learning. Program must be effective in improving phonemic awareness, but also needs to target comprehension and interpretation skills, and other key components of Spanish language acquisition. Program is based on current scientific research, Common Core State Standards, New Jersey Learning Standards. Program must provide for differentiated instruction for students functioning on different levels of the Spanish language acquisition process. It must address the needs of students in the Novice, intermediate and Advanced levels Program must have a digital component. Program must also offer hardcopies of teaching materials, workbooks and other manipulatives, which improve differentiated instruction.
