2040 - Long-Range Transit Plan

SORTA Metro is the public transit provider for Hamilton County, Ohio. The agency was established 50 years ago in 1973, replacing the Cincinnati Transit Commission. SORTA covers 289 square miles in its service area, including express service for neighboring counties. Metro’s mission is to provide regional transportation connecting people and places, driving economic growth, and expanding quality of life choices. Metro currently has 48 fixed-routes, 2 Mobility-On-Demand zones, and a paratransit service. The fixed-route system averages 50,000 daily riders. SORTA’s paratransit service, Access provides origin-to-destination transportation in smaller vehicles for passengers whose disabilities prevent them from riding Metro buses. MetroNow!, SORTA’s mobility-on-demand service, launched in May 2023. The service runs in specified zones to serve areas that are less dense and have streets difficult to navigate with a bus. In addition, SORTA is in the process of developing the region’s first Bus Rapid Transit routes. The project has identified two corridors for the routes, Hamilton Ave and Reading Rd, and is planned to be running by 2027. SORTA seeks professional project management, planning and public engagement services, including for Long Range Transit Plan Project. Planning services are needed for six (6) project phases: Project management Public Engagement and Visioning Review of Existing Conditions, Plans and Best Practices Analysis Scenario Development and Evaluation Final Plan Development The project delivery method will be by fixed price contract. The consultant may propose to include sub-consultants for specific areas of expertise. Metro expects the planning effort to conclude within 12 months of after contract execution and a contract term of 24 months.
