90 North District - Grant Study

Study Overview The Village of Schaumburg is seeking proposals for a comprehensive evaluation of all applicable grant funding opportunities as they relate to the future construction of the 90 North District Park and North Meacham Road Corridor enhancement projects. The 90 North District Park is a public park owned by the Village of Schaumburg at the center of the Veridian development in what was the former Motorola Solutions campus. The park is a 12 acre parcel of land which is generally north of Progress Parkway, west of Parkside Drive, south of Algonquin Road, and east of Progress Parkway. The Master Plan for the park was approved by the Village Board in June of 2019. The development of the park is envisioned not only to be a regional destination, but also a district amenity which will enhance everyday life for area employees, residents, and visitors. Located in the heart of the Veridian development, the park is part of a larger greenway system that will connect future neighborhoods, offices, and uses in the area. The first of many phases of park construction began late in the summer of 2021 and includes the park’s framework (i.e.: main bike path/sidewalks, site furnishings, detention/storm utilities, grading/seeding, landscaping, and signage). The corridor plan was approved by the Village Board in June of 2020. The plan defines the northern portion of Meacham Road as a distinctive corridor within Schaumburg and the region. The corridor plan seeks to unify the east and west sides of the 90 North District, balancing the needs of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. The plan will be implemented in a number of phases which will be prioritized based on adjacent redevelopment opportunities. Improvements along the corridor include new sidewalk/multi-use paths, decorative pavers, site furnishings, pedestrian lighting, signage, and a pedestrian bridge. The plan is being used to outline recommended improvements for the corridor that will guide public and private improvements in the area. Information about the North Meacham Road Corridor Plan may be found on the village’s website: https://schaumburg.novusagenda.com/AgendaPublic/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=13340&MeetingID=2136 Study Objectives Objectives of the 90 North District – Grant Study include: • Understanding of available grants to construct proposed park and corridor amenities. • Gain appreciation of various grant applicability, including minimum and recommended requirements for eligibility, necessary information to be included in grant applications which will improve chances of funding (i.e.: highlighting complete streets, ADA accessibility, socio-economic factors, etc.). • Prioritization of available grants which are most/least realistic to apply for. • Develop comprehensive list of grant submission dates, cycles, contact information, etc. for each applicable grant. Village staff anticipates collaborating with the selected firm throughout the study. Following award of the contract, the firm should review all key materials/information and be prepared with questions to move the study forward at the first key village meeting.
