Sacramento International Airport (SMF) has seen a significant increase in both passenger traffic and cargo operations, which has led to a rise in associated vehicular traffic. This surge in traffic on Airport Boulevard highlights the need for enhanced roadway wayfinding signs to ensure smooth navigation for all airports users. Currently, the existing overhead landside signs that direct traffic to parking lots and terminals feature outdated digital components that are no longer supported and are reaching the end of their lifecycle. With many parts for these signs now obsolete, Airport personnel are required to manually update the signage, a process that is not only time-consuming but also inefficient in meeting the dynamic needs of the Airport. This project will enhance the overall customer experience by providing clear and consistent directions, especially as passenger volumes and airport operations continue to grow. The introduction of modern digital signs at key points will empower staff to quickly adapt wayfinding messages to changing conditions, such as construction projects or traffic disruptions, as well as incorporate future development. This proactive approach will ensure that the Airport remains responsive to evolving needs while improving operational efficiency and traveler satisfaction.
