MICA WideFocal Live-Cell Imaging Microscope Platform

The University of Calgary intends to award a contract to VWR International ULC for the supply, installation, commissioning, training, warranty, and support of a Leica MICA WideFocal Live-Cell Imaging Microscope Platform. This equipment is being acquired to support advanced biological research involving ex-vivo tissue slices, organoids, live-cell imaging, fluorescence microscopy, and longitudinal imaging studies. The University requires an integrated imaging platform capable of supporting a diverse range of imaging workflows within a single instrument while maintaining image quality, reproducibility, and operational efficiency. Following a review of available technologies, the University has determined that the Leica MICA platform is the only known solution capable of meeting the complete combination of scientific, technical, and operational requirements necessary to support the intended research program. The platform incorporates proprietary imaging technologies that enable simultaneous widefield and confocal imaging workflows, filter-free spectral imaging, spectral unmixing, advanced live-cell environmental control, and automated image registration between imaging modalities.
