N1490 Fire Station 8 HVAC Replacement

This new Fire Station 8 project consists of replacing the existing roof mounted 25 ton air handling unit with a new 30 ton unit which will be able to meet the revised standard of 68 degrees at 50 – 60% humidity for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The project includes removal of the existing unit, replacement with a new unit, minor structural reinforcing to carry the load of the new unit. The new unit’s enthalpy wheel will increase energy efficiency by transferring both sensible and latent energy from toilet and bath exhaust air to incoming outdoor air. The project includes minor modifications to the existing ductwork. The existing structure is a steel framed three story structure. The building was built to meet the 2015 Virginia Uniform Statewide building code. The scope also includes removing and replacing the acoustical tile ceiling in the Day Room and part of the adjacent Corridor. The existing roof is a single ply, fully adhered EPDM roof. The sprinklers will need to be adjusted to the height of the new ceiling in the day room.
