Tree Aerial Canopy Assessment

1.1. Summary Escambia County Natural Resource Management is seeking a qualified professional vendor to provide an assessment of ~23 square miles of Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) for Escambia County of with a potential add on of another 53 square miles. (aerial maps provided) This project is important to understand the extent of Escambia County urban forest tree resources. This assessment will be used for establishing and implementing Escambia County municipal tree canopy goals as part of a broader urban greening, sustainability and environmental equity initiative. The Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) assessment will be used to set a baseline of information on the current tree canopy cover to monitor and measure canopy change and guide management and tree planting efforts. Project is to use the most recent high-resolution 4 band aerial imagery with infrared technology to remotely map all tree canopy and land cover, public and private, within the borders of the project areas. The assessment should include measurement of land cover classifications, including impervious surfaces, pervious surfaces, bare soils, and water. Urban Tree Canopy Assessment to Provide: Percent land cover for classes assessed - tree canopy, pervious, impervious, bare soil, and water. Report and fact sheet- Concisely written and include necessary charts, graphics and maps to communicate the major findings of the study. In addition to the report, provide a fact sheet with infographics to convey the project information to a general audience and policy making authorities. Potential add on alternate quote request: Priority plantable space estimate of how much tree canopy the county can gain on public property, and reasonably gain on private property. Planting areas map by tree size class (small, medium, large). Ecosystem benefit analysis; stormwater management, heat absorption, carbon and air quality. Project is federally funded and all expenditures under the agreement shall be in compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations applicable to expenditures of federal funds. The selected vendor shall implement applicable National Policy Requirements.
