UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA COOLING PLANT (CPOC) CONDENSER WATER CHEMICAL TREATMENT PROGRAM

University of Alberta

All open bids & awards from University of Alberta →

Description

The University of Alberta (University), located in Edmonton, Alberta, is the largest post-secondary institution in the province, with a total enrolment of approximately 46,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and a workforce of approximately 12,000 academic and support staff. Our University has a proud legacy of high-impact research and creativity across a wide range of disciplines. The University is driven by a commitment to support innovation in teaching, discovery, and community service. Its enduring vision is to be one of the world’s great universities for the public good, in line with the founding promise that "the uplifting of the whole people shall be its final goal." The University of Alberta is inviting the submission of Proposals for the design and implementation of a chemical treatment program for the chiller condenser water system for Utilities, Cooling Plant On Campus (CPOC). CPOC has five 2000 ton high pressure centrifugal R134A chillers that supply chilled water to the UofA North Campus. This plant uses five cooling towers to extract the heat from the chiller condensers. The UofA is exploring options for a water treatment system for the 95 m3 (25,000 US Gallons) CPOC condenser water system. The operating temperature of the condenser water system will not fall below a minimum temperature of 13.0C and the maximum temperature is determined by the outside ambient air temperature which can reach upwards of 40°C. The plant flow rate for one chiller is 1330.00 cubic meters per hour. Each cooling tower is also set at a rate of 1330 m3/hr. One unique feature of the CPOC plant is that the cooling towers and chillers are all connected together through a common header system instead of the typical configuration of one cooling tower directly connected to one chiller. The campus chilled water distribution system consists of a main chilled water plant (26000 tons) that operates year round, a Thermal Energy Storage System (approximately 5000 tons), and the CPOC plant (10000 tons) which are connected to over 80 buildings on the UofA North Campus via piping running through 11 kms of corridor. Our intention is to have an initial two (2) year contract with option to renew for an additional two (2) four (4) year extensions for a total contract length of ten (10) years.
