Converted Shipping Container for Live Entertainment

The City of Urbana is seeking to purchase a new 20’ shipping container retrofitted to support live entertainment. The container shall be retrofitted with an 16’ wide stage/door opening lowered with a mechanical winch system. When closed, the stage door needs to be weatherproof. The container will be delivered and placed at or near grade on a crushed stone or concrete pad (to be provided by the City) located on a vacant natural grass lot. When lowered, the stage will rest on natural grass. This container will be considered an “Assembly Use” by the International Building Code (IBC) and thus it will need to be designed and sealed by an Illinois architect or structural engineer.
