Die Stadt Königswinter plant die Errichtung einer Bahnunterführung auf der Tourismus-Achse vom Rhein zur Drachenfelsbahn. Parallel wird die Deutsche Bahn die Errichtung begleiten. Es gibt daher ein Zeitfenster, indem der Zugverkehr gesperrt ist und in diesem Zeitfenster muss die Baumaßnahme ausgeführt werden. Der Bahnübergang (BÜ) Drachenfelsstraße liegt auf der zweigleisigen Strecke 2324 zwischen Mühlheim (Ruhr)-Splendorf und Niederlahnstein und kreuzt diese in Königswinter in Bahn-km 99,1+37 (ehemals Bahn-km 99,1+26)
