PROJECT NO. 1007091 Embarcadero West Rail Safety Project Phase 1 (OVR/Market and Oak) The Embarcadero West Rail Safety Project – Phase 1 (OVR/Market and Oak) aims to improve safety and accessibility in the proximity of two at-grade public railroad crossings on Embarcadero West at the intersections of Oak Street and Market Street. The scope includes updated pedestrian and vehicle improvements on Oak Street and Market Street between Embarcadero West and 3rd Street, as well as a new, separated two-way bicycle track on Oak Street between Embarcadero West and 3rd Street, and on Embarcadero West between Oak Street and Alice Street. The project also aims to create a new overweight vehicle route (OVR) through the industrial Port of Oakland area, between Market Street and Adeline/Middle Harbor Road. The OVR will re-route overweight trucks away from the currently-used route that travels through the historically disadvantaged West Oakland neighborhood.
