Alston Park Restroom

The project will construct underground utilities and site improvements to facilitate the installation of a prefabricated restroom (by others) and upgrade the parking lot and main pathway leading up the hillside of Alston Park. New sewer, water and underground electric lines will be constructed to serve the restroom. The lines will initially terminate at stub ups located in predetermined locations in restroom footprint, where they will enter the building through knock outs in the floor. The contractor will finish making the utility connections within the building once it is in position. The site has an existing water service, which will be tapped into to serve the restroom. Additionally, an existing water line serving a drinking fountain will be extended to relocate the fountain and a portion of exposed PVC pipeline adjacent to the path will need to be lowered to provide cover. A new sanitary sewer connection will be established by reconstructing the manhole on the intersection of Trower Ave and Dry Creek Road. The Contractor will have the option of constructing either a 4" sewer line with conventional trenching, or a 6" sewer line by boring the pipeline underneath the parking lot, to connect the restroom to the sewer main. The option for the 4-inch sewer is shown on sheets C-1A and C-2A, and is the work is outlined in Alternate #1 of the bid schedule. The option for the 6-inch sewer is shown on sheets C-1B and C-2B, and is the work is outlined in Alternate #2 of the bid schedule. Napa Sanitary District Engineering has approved the plans for both designs. A new electrical service application has cleared through PG&E and the design has been approved. The Contractor will install the underground conduit, meter pedestal, cabinet and vault shown on the plans, and will run wiring to connect the meter to the restroom panel. PG&E will install the new meter and run wiring from the joint pole to connect the meter the grid. The Contractor will need to coordinate inspections of their work and coordinate any work performed by PG&E into the construction schedule. The prefabricated concrete restroom procured through a separate contract is manufactured by CXT. The contractor will prepare a compacted gravel pad to support the restroom per CXT drawings and specifications, which are reflected in the Construction Documents. CXT will deliver and offload the building using a crane onto the prepared pad over the utility stub ups. The contractor will dowel rebar into the concrete base to tie into the surrounding concrete hardscape and will connect the building plumbing to the new utility lines. A drinking fountain and dry well will be constructed near the restroom. The contractor will need to procure the drinking fountain and coordinate delivery. New concrete flatwork and ADA access ramps leading from the parking lot to the restroom will be constructed. Microsurfacing will be applied to the existing pavement in the parking lot. Parking lines and ADA pavement markings will be reapplied with thermoplastic and new wheel stops will be installed, along with two new ADA parking signposts and signs. The main pathway leading into the park will be upgraded by constructing a new steel framed access gate at the entrance to the parking lot. A new gravel wearing course will be applied to the existing pathway surface and the portion of pathway leading up the hillside will be regraded to create a vehicular access road. Bark mulch and decorative rock will be applied to small regions of the project to fill voids adjacent to the new concrete flatwork.
