The Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), approved for an amount of USD 218.7 million, has the Project Development Objective (PDO) to improve the quality of education in low-performing basic education schools and to strengthen education sector equity and accountability in Ghana. The GALOP was originally implemented over a five-year period from Jan 2020 to Dec 2024. However, the parent project has been extended to close by 31st December 2026 and the Ministry has received a second additional financing (AF 2) totaling $118.8m to scale up successful interventions from the parent project to be implemented by 31st December 2028. The Government of Ghana has recently secured funds from the World Bank (USD 300 million) for the Ministry of Education to implement the Second Education Transformation for Access, Relevance and Results for Jobs Project (STARR-J), with the PDO to expand access to, and improve the quality and relevance of, secondary education in Ghana.
