Accelerated Learning High Impact Tutoring

Jersey City Public Schools / Purchasing Department

Description

Jersey City Public Schools serves more than 26,350 students across grades K-12. Grant funds would be used to address the needs of students in grades 3-12 with a focus on 3rd and 4th grade students. In the last two years we have seen a 2.95% increase in ELA achievement and .9% in Math achievement on state exams. Of the forty-two schools, thirteen are identified as Targeted/Comprehensive; one middle school, five K-5 schools, and three K-12 schools. This year, two high schools and two K-8 schools have been identified as Comprehensive II schools. Although movement continues, it is minimal leaving the gaps between state and district significant. Closing the achievement gap between high-and-low-performing schools, especially the achievement gaps between the minority and non-minority students, and between disadvantaged children and their more advantaged peers. We believe these concerns can be addressed through the dynamic tutoring support programs. The dynamic landscape of post-pandemic education demands a steadfast commitment to providing equitable and high-quality learning resources and support to all students. The JCPS is acutely aware of the imperative to bolster reading and math proficiency among its diverse student body. Despite considerable efforts to refine curriculum and teaching methodologies, the district faces the enduring challenge of accommodating increasingly varying learning needs within traditional classroom settings. Moreover, resource constraints, particularly in terms of personnel and time, impede the district's ability to provide comprehensive one-on-one or small-group tutoring sessions to students who require additional assistance in reading and math. Compounded by the unprecedented disruptions caused by the recent pandemic, addressing these challenges necessitates innovative and effective solutions.
