Sign Language Interpreting and In-Person Real-Time Captioning Services

Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) is seeking qualified captioners and ASL Interpreters to provide district-wide in-person Realtime Captioning/CART services and interpreting services for both in-person and remote. It is our goal to optimize these accommodations in the District. The use of Sign Language Interpreting services facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals by translating spoken language (voice) into sign language (sign) and sign to voice. This ensures effective communication in various settings including but not limited to academic, student services, administrative, and special event settings for students and employees. In-person real-time captioning services provide instant transcription of spoken words into text. This service is crucial for individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing and who may not use interpreting services, allowing them to read the live text of conversations, lectures, or presentations in real time. This enhances accessibility and ensures inclusivity in various interactive settings. It is the intent of the District to issue multiple contracts for sign language interpretation and/or translation services and in-person real-time captionist services as a result of this RFP and invites interested applicants to submit proposals for one or all of the services the District seeks to retain. Each contract awarded through this RFP with individuals, interpreter agencies and firms, translation agencies and firms, and real-time captionists agencies and firms will be effective for a period of five years contingent on satisfactory services rendered.
