RFP Public Art Conservation

The City of Santa Monica is requesting proposals from firms experienced in Art Conservation and certified to work on prevailing wage projects for the City of Santa Monica. Only applicants registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations and able to operate under Prevailing Wage requirements may respond to this RFP. Penalties apply to applicants not so registered; do not respond to this RFP if you are not registered. One or more, or no firms may be chosen from this RFP. Chosen firms will be invited to enter into a contract with the City of Santa Monica, regarding the future care and maintenance of the City’s art collection under the oversight of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs (SMCA). All projects are dependent upon funding and the conservation needs of the collection, and no guarantee of work frequency or amount is implied should a contract be initiated. The City’s collection encompasses a range of materials and types, from massive outdoor sculptures with kinetic or electronic elements, to murals in a variety of media, to portable framed works. SMCA will review a variety of different qualifications to evaluate and score individuals and firms, including an assessment of the quality of completed projects, evidence that the firm has a successful record of preserving artistic intent and the integrity of works in their care, and adherence to the American Institute for Conservation Code of Ethics, work with historic and/or culturally sensitive projects in public and other criteria. Applicants that perform arts conservation services to a high level of expertise and professionalism are encouraged to submit their qualifications. Applicants may submit qualifications in one or more categories. Applicants are asked to include any relevant experience and certifications held when applying. SMCA will review applications and establish a list of qualified firms for the purpose of awarding future contracts as needed. Work may occur throughout the City of Santa Monica. Being awarded a contract does not guarantee that a firm will be assigned specific projects. Contracts will be for five years, assuming firms maintain prevailing wage certification, relevant licenses and other requirements for the contract. Contracts may contain an option for renewal at the close of five years.
