Nestor Pavement Repair - Sinkhole
nashville / Facilities Maintenance
Description
The Nestor Sinkhole Repair project at 130 Nestor Street is designed to restore structural integrity and operational reliability of the facility access area affected by pavement and subgrade failure. The work will be executed in phased sectional repairs to ensure that site operations remain active throughout construction. Scope of Work Mobilization & Traffic Control: Establish staging areas and implement traffic control measures to safely direct vehicle and equipment flow during sectional closures. Sectional Demolition & Excavation: Remove damaged rigid pavement and subgrade in controlled sections. Excavation will proceed in phases to limit disruption and maintain usable access routes. Subgrade Stabilization: Install geogrid reinforcement and geotextile stabilization within each section to strengthen the base and prevent recurrence of settlement. Aggregate & Base Placement: Place and compact mineral aggregate (Type A, Grading D gravel) as structural base material for each phased area. Concrete Pavement Installation: Construct 9” Portland cement concrete pavement with dowels, welded wire mesh, and Sikaflex grout as required. Concrete will be poured and cured by section, maintaining continuous access around work zones. Drainage & Utility Adjustments: Adjust manhole lids and related drainage structures as sectional pavement is restored, ensuring alignment and function. Erosion Control & Surface Treatments: Apply erosion control measures during excavation and backfill. Final work includes painted pavement markings, ensuring a safe and functional surface. Operational Considerations Phasing will allow one section to remain under repair while adjacent sections remain open for site operations. This approach minimizes downtime, maintains facility access, and ensures safe circulation for transit vehicles and personnel.
