Hurricane Ian Dune Walkover Repairs
County of Volusia / Coastal
Description
Hurricane Ian destroyed 5 Dune Walkover Structures in the fall of 2022. This project will replace 5 Dune Walkover Structures along the coast of Volusia County. The projects span from Ormond By the Sea to Daytona Beach to Ponce Inlet. Although the 5 locations of the walkovers will have different layouts and designs all will have common structural details and methodology throughout. In addition to the Timber Walkover Structures 3 sites will require an additional element to the project. The San Jose location will require a roofing structure over a seating area, Goodall location will require reestablishing a waterline and shower head on the beach and the Winterhaven location will require an extension of the sidewalk to meet the dune walkover structure at the seawall. The ideal contractor would be able to mobilize and work multiple sites simultaneously. The start of this project will begin during Turtle Nesting Season and special conditions will be required for work on the beach during Turtle Nesting Season.
