Bethany Curve Bridge Culvert Community Mosaic

City of Santa Cruz / Economic Development and Housing

All open bids & awards from City of Santa Cruz

Description

The City Arts Division at the City of Santa Cruz is seeking a non-profit vendor or artist team working in collaboration with a non-profit to execute a community designed community designed and fabricated set of mosaic murals will be installed on the Bethany Curve Bridge - both the interior south face and the interior north face and the exterior north face seen from the park. The three-sided mosaic will be impactful and accessible for all visitors. The vendor will host a series of community workshops focused on the relationships of river flow and the ocean, highlighting flora and fauna during visits to the park and the reliance on the streams and waterways illustrating the understanding that they flow to the ocean. The mosaic mural installation would act as both a beautiful statement of community for passersby but, equally important, as an educational opportunity to focus attention on the natural water resource flowing into the ocean via the culvert in the bridge. By utilizing a community-based art design and fabrication process, residents, including students, will develop a tangible connection to the location and knowledge of the importance of ensuring we have a clean and cared for watershed. The design will incorporate the relationship between the river and the ocean and the role that we all play in keeping this ecosystem thriving.
