Medical Assessment
Treasury Board and Finance
Description
The Government of Alberta is implementing Care-First, a recovery-focused auto insurance system established under the AIA and its regulations. As part of Care-First, Medical Assessments have been introduced to support timely, consistent, and evidence-based decision-making in claims where recovery does not progress as expected. A Medical Assessment is an independent assessment conducted by a multidisciplinary team of Medical Assessors under the AIA to support timely, consistent, and evidence-based decision-making when recovery is not progressing as expected. The assessment assists in clarifying diagnosis, identifying barriers to recovery, evaluating functional abilities, and providing treatment and recovery recommendations. A Medical Assessment does not determine liability or fault. The Province is issuing this Request for Proposals to establish qualified Proponents with the capability to engage and coordinate Medical Assessors to deliver Medical Assessment Services across Alberta in accordance with Care-First policy intent and regulatory requirements. The Services identified in this RFP are necessary to ensure that Medical Assessments are accessible on a province-wide basis, delivered consistently, and completed within reasonable timelines, when requested by insurers. Medical Assessment services must support physical and non-physical injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents.
