CRA - IFCED Design Service for Sidewalks Safety Upgrades North Palafox Street

INFORMATION PACKAGE Escambia County is seeking a transportation engineering firm to deliver full engineering design services for new sidewalks on Palafox Street from Pensacola Boulevard (Hwy 29) to Nine Mile Road. The goal of the project is to create safe, efficient transportation infrastructure for all non-vehicular modes by providing accessible sidewalk connections to our schools, community centers, restaurants, park areas and transit. All facilities will meet the latest Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. The final plans shall consider roadway design, drainage design, and utility coordination as necessary to deliver the project. North Palafox Street is a local collector roadway which diverges from US29 just north of Brent Lane and continues north for 4.8 miles paralleling US29/Pensacola Boulevard to the west and CSX railroad tracks to the east. This commercial and residential corridor traverses north-south through both the Ensley and Oakfield Community Redevelopment Areas (CRAs). North Palafox Street occasionally serves as a traffic/freight detour to US 29. Providing for additional transportation modes, such as walking or biking, is paramount to increasing safety along this corridor. These upgrades will better accommodate the economic revitalization of the Ensley and Oakfield Community Redevelopment Areas. This pedestrian infrastructure enhancement project contributes to Escambia County’s goal to revitalize and enhance the quality of life within the CRA areas by encouraging private sector reinvestment, promoting economic development, and providing public sector enhancements
