Description
Riverside County Regional Park & Open-Space District is seeking proposals from qualified vendors to provide weed removal and maintenance services of the Giant Reed (Arundo Donax), Tamarix. spp, and other exotic vegetation for the duration of 5 years. All areas within the scope are to be comprised of 5% or less of Arundo donax and Tamarix sppupon District monthly inspection of the completed areas. During active restoration phases, native plant cover is expected to increase (species diversity, number of living individuals per species, average height per species, etc). During plant propagation phases, seed collection and storage should be diverse (including local genetic diversity) and meet District staff requirements; cutting collections and container nursery maintenance and practices should be sanitary (prevent spread of disease and Phytophthora) and meet District staff requirements. All native plant materials should be sourced from within the project area. The District desires to collaborate with an outside contractor to fulfill organizational goals and requirements related to ecological restoration that are owned and/or managed by the District such as: Initial phase (year 1) is to remove invasive plant species, including Arundo, tamarisk, castor bean, tree tobacco, perennial pepperweed, poison hemlock, Bassia, and more via mechanical and chemical techniques. Maintenance phase (year 2-5) is to continue removing and treating any invasive plant species that return. Onsite biological monitoring, including nest monitoring, during active invasive plant removal and restoration activities during nesting bird season, and additional monitoring per permit requirements (such as CDFW 1602). Conduct ecological restoration (year 2-5) following invasive plant removal; collect riparian species pole cuttings and seed collection within project area (begin year 2); propagate and maintain plants in containers (native plant materials program); install container plants in habitat and maintain them through season (year 3-5). All phases shall follow permit and grant requirements including CDFW 1602 permit.
