Investment Advisory and Management Services

leecollege / Purchasing

Description

Lee College began in 1934 as a Goose Creek Independent School District arm. After separating from the school district in 1965, Lee College’s first President, Dr. Richard Strahan, along with some farsighted community leaders, astutely realized a critical need for a non-profit entity that would raise external funds to support Lee College and its students. As a result, the Lee College Foundation was established in 1968. The first Board of Directors consisted of 13 members. Together, they set a goal of raising $20,000 for student scholarships as their priority. Along with ensuring the growth and quality of educational programs at Lee College, the founders identified student loans, academic enrichment programs, and campus aesthetics as primary targets for their funds. In 1981, when the Foundation’s assets totaled just over $65,000, a new Board designated the funds as a permanent endowment and pledged to raise the total to $100,000. By 1983, the group successfully exceeded this goal. At the same time, the Board organized the Lee College Foundation’s inaugural gala to raise the Foundation’s visibility within the community. The annual Lee College Foundation Gala has become a cherished tradition that celebrates all those who participate and contribute to the support of Lee College and its students. More than 50 years after its founding, the Lee College Foundation is more vital than ever because of the generous support from community individuals and business and industry leaders who recognize the importance of postsecondary education. Nowhere is this support more evident than in the number of endowed scholarships the Lee College Foundation maintains to support students. More than 500 individual scholarships will be awarded during the next academic year. And these endowed funds will support students every academic term in perpetuity. The business of the Lee College Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors, which comprises up to 25 local leaders who serve in a volunteer capacity. Members of the Board include: Gary Englert Lynne Foley Rusty Senac Connie Tilton Kristy Claypool Don Coffey Cory Credeur Ryan Dagley Stephen DonCarlos Sandra Duree Roy Fuller Gina Guillory Suzanne Heinrich Sandy Janacek Jennifer Marcontell Gilbert Santana Dirk Perrin Carl Pickett Pam Warford Macie Schubert Laurie Terry Judy Wheat
