NewarkWORKS is operational arm of the Newark One Stop Career Center and provides employment, education and training programs for Adult and Youth individuals. NewarkWORKS is seeking proposals for Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth funded services through NewarkWORKS which is the organization that will negotiate classroom size contracts, as well as refer participants to contracted vendors. It also houses the counselors who both assess and refer participants to services funded under this RFP. The main office is located at 990 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey. Service providers approved through this process will be working with this office to process referrals, billing, performance reviews, and accessing assistance for participants who need more than just employment-related training. NewarkWORKS’ activities are overseen by the Newark Workforce Development Board (NWDB). The NWDB provides oversight, works as the managing partner of the One-Stop Career Center. The business-led board ensures policies established by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development are being carried out for the NWDB is charged with assisting in the economic development of the city and to make sure that the services provided by the One-Stop are meeting the and provides direction for NewarkWORKS and the One-Stop Career Center. The business-led Board sets policy for workforce development in Newark and functions as a bridge between Newark employers and the talent development system in Newark. The NWDB is charged with assisting in the economic development of the city and to make sure that the services provided by the One-Stop Career Center are meeting employer needs and employer demands for skilled workers. The Mayor’s vision is to attract more people, create an economic ecosystem that attracts investments, stabilize our housing market, leverage and seed our arts community, support small business growth, encourage buying local and prepare our residents for what we know to come if we had the mind to work. The City of Newark employed and trained over 3,000 youth in the largest Summer Youth program in the history of the city and state. Now the City of Newark have begun to get them in year-round opportunities and internships, creating a pipeline of employment-ready young people that will take advantage of a growing city. Pre-apprenticeships and registered apprenticeships provided will launch participants into an excellent career in hundreds of occupations including childcare development specialists, dental assistants and several occupations in construction and health. NewarkWORKS accepts residents from the community who may need to utilize its free resources, schedule appointments for other services and also houses staff dedicated to veterans, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Youth Corps, Unemployment Insurance and Employment Services administered by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. One Stop Centers are charged with aligning their vocational trainings with in demand occupations and industries that show regional and statewide growth. These include but are not limited to: Commercial Driver Transportation and Logistics Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioner (HVAC) Technician Medical and Healthcare Paralegal and/or Legal Assistant Plumber As well as other innovative work-based learning models that incorporate project-based learning at employer sites.
