Unit W Wastewater Interceptor Project - Phase 1

toaks / Public Works

Description

General work description: The necessary rehabilitation work for the Unit W Project, Phase 1, includes installation of a temporary wastewater bypass pipeline to HCTP headworks so closed circuit television (CCTV) work can be performed on the inside of the wastewater pipelines. This CCTV work will be done on one pipeline at a time. Due to the long pipeline reaches on the Unit W alignment and the equipment limitations of the CCTV equipment (cable length), this project will also install access tee fittings at key locations. The access points will be installed when the flows are transferred to the other existing pipeline. Once the access points are completed and no longer needed on this project, they will be closed and left in place for future use. In addition, three of the existing isolation valves are non-functional due to mechanical failure and will be replaced as part of this project (owner furnished, contractor installed). These valves are buried in the canyon and therefore must be excavated to be replaced. The condition assessment of the existing facilities is the first phase of a potential two-phase project. The Work consists of: 1. Replacements as shown in the Contract Documents of valves, appurtenances, and installation of access manways. 2. Furnishing, installing & maintaining bypass system and tee access to existing pipelines to perform the cleaning & CCTV inspections of the pipelines & structures per the Construction Drawings. 3. Remove, replace, and reconstruct treatment plant access road pavement, where shown on drawings. 4. Coordinate with the city's treatment plant personnel for the operation of their valves, access to the site, and laydown areas. The isolation valves for the project (non-bypass) have been purchased by the City and will be supplied to the Contractor to install as part of this project. See Specification 01 11 01 for permits necessary to complete the work, and the additional details in the attached plans and specs.
