Description
This project consists of renovations to portions of the historic Springfield Central High School. The existing facilities to be renovated amount to a total of approximately 29,700 SF, with 663 SF of additional new construction. The existing school facilities are to be converted for office, storage, museum, banquet hall, and maintenance workshop uses. Associated sitework is included. Below is an overview of the proposed scope of work building-by-building: Buildings 04+05: These former classroom buildings are to be converted into offices for the County's board of elections. A portion of the existing breezeway between Buildings 04 & 05 will be demolished and this space will be enclosed as a new waiting room that joins the two buildings together. The eastern half of Building 05 will be used for storage by the county's facilities & maintenance department. The new roofing over the addition will be TPO membrane to match existing, over metal decking and structural steel. Building 06: Former classroom building to be converted into storage use. Building 07: Former classroom building will be converted for use by the board of elections and will include a voting room as well as storage for voting equipment. Building 08: Former classroom building to be renovated and restored as an "example classroom" open to educational tours from the public. Building 08 will also include two storage rooms Building 09: Former classroom/multimedia building to be converted primarily into a workshop space for the county's facilities & maintenance department. Building 09 will also include two offices, a conference room, and storage areas. A new overhead garage door will be installed in the existing masonry wall. Building 09 will be on a generator. Building 10: Former administration building to be converted to include a conference room, reception room, and a restored Principal's office open to public educational tours. Building 11: Former cafeteria/kitchen building to be restored to include a banquet hall, added bathrooms, a warming kitchen, storage space, and an admin office. Building 12+13: Building 12 currently serves as an auxiliary function to Building 13, the gymnasium, and houses a concession stand and bathrooms. The gymnasium remains in use, and no interior improvements are included in the scope of work in Building 13. Building 12 improvements will include expanding the currently substandard bathrooms, expanding the lobby, and converting the existing open breezeway on the western side of the building into an enclosed corridor. New exterior wall construction shall consist of light gauge steel framing, fiber cement panel cladding, and storefront windows. The existing exterior walkway will be removed and replaced with a new concrete slab which is level with the existing interior slab. Infills at designated existing window openings will consist of fiber cement panel cladding over light gauge steel framing. All existing brick veneer to be cleaned of graffiti. All existing floor finishes, ceilings, and plumbing fixtures are to be demolished. All existing interior paint will need to be stripped and all remaining interior CMU surfaces are to be prepared to receive new finishes.
