Transit Travel Training Program
tarta / Paratransit
Description
Segments of the Toledo metropolitan area population does not use public transportation because they do not understand the fundamental requirements or “how-to” of bus riding. This includes individuals with disabilities, as well as seniors who may have limited or no experience using fixed-route bus service. Without an understanding of how to use TARTA services, these individuals often rely on more expensive transportation options (taxis or van services), or rely on family or friends for transportation needs. TARTA’s goal for this RFP is to identify and work with a Contractor who can develop and implement a Transit Travel Training Program to successfully train groups, citizens, seniors and individuals with disabilities on the safe and effective use of public transit services. TARTA is seeking a Contractor who has the experience and demonstrated ability to provide training materials to fit the different customer populations in the region to safely and effectively use public transit to access work, appointments, medical facilities, or other required destinations appropriate to the individual and their needs. The training material will be put together to be conducted one-on-one and possibly in small groups, individualized for appropriate participants. The Contractor will develop a Transit Travel Training Plan for TARTA. The training will be conducted on the public transit service for the trips to be made by participants. It therefore may involve training during all hours of bus operation and on scheduled routes available via TARTA. Participation will be strictly voluntary and there will be no associated fees or costs to those seeking enrollment in the training program.
