FRANKLIN FIELD AIRPORT - REHABILITATE AIRCRAFT PARKING APRON AND REPAVE ACCESS ROAD
saccounty / Airports
Description
Franklin Field Airport (F72) is located in Franklin, California and is a public use airport owned and operated by the County of Sacramento. The airport is located approximately twenty miles south of downtown Sacramento, California. The facility does not have air traffic control tower or personnel and serves the general aviation community exclusively. Approximately 20,000 operations take place each year at Franklin Field, many of which are fight training activities. The county has identified that F72’s Aircraft Parking Apron requires potential rehabilitation and has asked for an investigation into potentially expanding the apron to allow for more parking. The Aircraft Parking Apron has deteriorated over time and now requires rehabilitation. Once the design and investigation of the pavement began, it was determined that the apron will require an increase in strength to meet its needs based upon current and projected traffic. The generally recommended work throughout the project is a minimum 3-inch mill and overlay. Weak areas that were found during RDM’s field investigation and pavement analysis are recommended for Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) of the existing pavement and base course with a 3-inch asphalt overlay. Other main work items consist of a widening of the eastern apron to allow for additional parking and Seal Coating the Eastern Ramp, Taxiway D, and Taxiway E.
