Description

Pinellas County is enhancing and restoring a section of the northern portion of Weedon Island Preserve through a pilot project for approximately 41-acre portion that will remove manmade spoil mounds and improve water flow. Removal of the spoil mounds will create additional black mangrove habitat and the tidal flow will be restored through dredging, filling or de-silting the existing mosquito ditches. Spoil mounds will be enhanced through the filling and dredging of existing ditches. Best management practices (BMPs) will be implemented during construction to insure no adverse impacts to water quality.
